Gulp selected as one of Kevin McCloud's Green Heroes

Matter, a Bristol-based start-up, is proud to announce that their innovative microfibre filter Gulp has been selected as one of Kevin McCloud's Green Heroes and will be featured at the Grand Designs Live Show in London from 27th April to 9th May. 

Every year Kevin McCloud, the renowned television presenter and sustainability advocate, celebrates the best in eco-friendly construction ideas and personally selects his top heroes from start-ups to big businesses leading the way in sustainability.  

Gulp was created as a solution to the colossal problem of microplastic pollution from washing clothes. One of the biggest sources of microplastics entering our ecosystem comes from synthetic 'microfibres' in our clothes [1]. Increasing evidence suggests these tiny plastic particles can cause harm to our environment and human health [2]. After every laundry cycle, up to 700,000 plastic microfibres are released from washing machines and into waterways [3]. Gulp is a long-lasting washing machine filter compatible with all European washing machines that captures up to 90% of microfibres from every laundry cycle and requires no replacement filters.  

The news of being selected for Kevin McCloud’s Green heroes comes shortly after the success of their Kickstarter campaign last year which raised over £130,000 and landed Gulp in the top 4% of Kickstarter projects.
