The LED light indictor will let you know when it is ready to empty the filter. This will be approximately every 15-20 washes.

Gulp is very easy and clean to empty. Simply remove the front filter cup, take off the lid and empty the microfibres. Gulp also comes with a handy cleaning tool to remove any material left inside the filter cup. The filter drains away all the water, so there is no excess water to clean up!

Never! Gulp’s self-cleaning technology means that you don’t need to buy replacement filters.

-
Gulp only runs for a short time when the washing machine is on and uses a very small amount of energy (30 Watts). Over the course of one year and using an electricity price of £0.50 per kWh then Gulp will cost no more than £0.45 to run.

Yes….. but we recommend you have some form of water softener in your household or use descaler regularly as you would to maintain your washing machine.

When your Gulp is delivered next year, we will be accepting returns of microfibres captured by Gulp which will be used for ongoing research or recycled into new products. We will send you details on best practices for returning your collected microfibres nearer the time of product delivery.
If you are unable to send the microfibres back to us, that’s ok too. Putting them in the bin is much better than down the drain. In the UK and Europe, the majority of landfill is now sealed due to the regulatory requirements in the EU. This means that what goes in doesn’t come out.
-
Wastewater treatment plants are not designed to capture and recycle microplastics. Many microfibres pass through the treatment process to the ocean. Any microfibres capturing during the treatment process is contained within sewage sludge, which is then released back into the environment.
In the UK 80% of sewage sludge is used on agricultural land as fertiliser, which is now the often-favoured approach. Other popular means of disposal are land compositing and incineration.
Capturing microplastic pollution at the source gives us the best chance to tackling the problem.
